The Rose Bowl Stadium, a National Landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is approaching its 88th year of operation. To keep the stadium operational, there are significant capital improvements that need to be addressed. The conceptual strategic plan will bring the stadium up to modern day standards without disturbing the continuity of the stadium’s historic status. This will include redevelopment of all areas within the current facility fence line and realignment of the fence line itself. Current at grade spectator amenities will be replaced, along with all grade level hard and soft landscaping. Bowl access will be improved via new north and south access tunnels, constructed below the existing bowl profile and, while the fabric of the bowl will be retained, new seating, railings and aisle circulation routes will be implemented. The stadium’s audio/visual systems will be replaced, along with a new playing surface and new sports lighting.
The most significant single component of the redevelopment is the replacement of the existing west sideline building. This new, five story building will touch down at grade level to allow access to two vertical circulation towers and provide open air circulation at a new “Rose Concourse” to be constructed at the current upper bowl level. Club, suite and press amenities will then provided on four upper levels.
