Donald Bren Hall is one of the first buildings in the United States to earn a level of LEED Platinum certification from the USGBC, and the first laboratory building to do so. The four story building includes over 25,000 square feet of classroom, office and conference room space, and over 20,000 square feet of laboratory space, and is notable for its many sustainable features, including white roofing material, drought-resistant landscaping, permeable paving, the use of waterless urinals, and of grey water for flushing toilets, and the strong focus on energy conservation. The desire for sustainability was a primary focus early in design, so that the building was greened at minimal extra cost beyond the original budget. Davis Langdon provided both cost estimating services and sustainable design consulting throughout the design process.
