Mission Bay is currently the largest mixed-use redevelopment project planned in San Francisco. The project encompasses over 300 acres outside of downtown San Francisco and is envisioned as the ‘Silicon Valley" of Biotech.
The development, which was spearheaded by Catellus (now ProLogis), features joint ventures with a number of smaller REITs, as well as co-development of the UCSF campus with the State of California. The redevelopment project encompasses hundreds of individual projects which include housing, office space, biotech labs and research facilities, UCSF’s new biotech campus with all the university building, parks, MUNI, streets, landscapes, freight rail and bridges. There are potentially hundreds of architects, engineers, contractors, Public and Private Agencies involved in this project in some capacity. In addition to the development as a whole, Davis Langdon has also worked on the individual projects within the development primarily with the various architects for projects at UCSF.
Information Technology Services
Davis Langdon designed and set up an overall information management structure that deals with information whether it is paper-based, electronic (on the LAN) or web-based electronic information. In addition, Davis Langdon set up a ‘web portal’ that offers a broad array of resources and services, and offers an easy, one-stop embarkation point for project related activities and information related to the "Mission Bay" project.
Cost Planning
Davis Langdon also provided cost estimating and evaluation services to Catellus. This involved establishing construction budgets, analyzing cost decisions and monitoring costs during construction. Some of the projects included the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Genentech Hall, Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research (QB3), and Campus Housing Block #20.
Master Scheduling
Davis Langdon provided master scheduling services for the entire master plan for the first 5 years which included around 95 projects.
